Robert Buckley
Robert Buckley, a widely sought after urban development policy expert, joined the Rockefeller Foundation as Managing Director in January 2008. He is the former Lead Economist at The World Bank in Washington, D.C. Buckley, who had been with The World Bank since 1986, has led the development of new approaches to understanding the ramifications of rapidly increasing urbanization in the developing world. During his years at the Bank, Buckley had the opportunity to work in countries throughout the world, helping to prepare projects and undertaking studies summarized in a recent book, “Thirty Years of World Bank Shelter Lending: What Have We Learned”.
Prior to joining The World Bank, Buckley served as the Chief Economist for the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development in Washington, D.C., and taught at a number of universities such as: the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, the Maxwell School at Syracuse, and the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He has also served as a Fulbright Scholar and written many articles, as well as a number of books and monographs on urban issues, particularly in developing countries.
