Georgina Pozo Rivas

Georgina Pozo Rivas is the International Affairs Coordinator at the Urban Development Secretariat of the Government of the State of Mexico. Since 1994 to she has served as advisor on metropolitan and international affairs at the Secretariat of Water and Public Works and at the Secretariat of Urban Development, both of which are constituent parts of the Government of the State of Mexico.

Born in Mexico City, Georgina is an Urban Geographer who trained at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, UNAM) from 1977 to 1982. From 1981 to 1985, Georgina was a researcher attached to El Colegio de México’s Environmental and Development Program. Georgina served as a private consultant on environment and development issues from 1985 to 1990. She was a consultant to the United Nations Environmental Program, Latin America and the Caribbean - PNUMA from 1981 to 1984. In addition, she was an advisor on the Mexican financial system from1990-1994. Georgina has organized global meetings for Metropolis, including a series of seminars and workshops for city leaders, including one on Urban Regeneration in 2000; a Board of Directors meeting in the State of Mexico in 2004; and one on Metropolitan Performance Measurements in Latin America in 2008. She represented Metropolis before the Economical and Social Council of United Nations. Georgina Is the Technical Contact for the State of Mexico with Metropolis: The World Association of the Greater Metropolises and served as the coordinator of the Metropolis working commission on “Water Management”.
