Eugene Kohn

Eugene Kohn, FAIA RIBA JIA, serves as Chairman of Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates. In 1976, along with William Pedersen and Sheldon Fox, he founded KPF based on a commitment to design excellence. Since then, Mr. Kohn has served as Partner-in-Charge of many of KPF’s major domestic and international projects and is responsible for many of the firm’s new commissions.

Eugene Kohn is respected worldwide, not only for his forty-year career as an architect, but also for his inspirational leadership qualities. As founder and Principal of KPF, he has developed a global strategy and has shaped the firm into one of the world’s leaders in all aspects of architectural practice. Gene Kohn’s commitment to the built environment has earned the firm respect and an outstanding reputation with clients and colleagues alike. Since its inception, KPF has earned six National AIA Design awards and, in 1990, became the youngest firm ever to be presented the AIA Architectural Firm Award, the most prestigious honor granted by the American Institute of Architects.

Mr. Kohn has been honored by the National Education Fund (1997), the Sheltering Arms Children Service (1995), and has been presented the Sidney L. Strauss Award from the New York Society of Architects (1996), as well the Lifetime Achievement Award given by the Wharton Real Estate Center (1997). He was recognized in 1998 with the Ellis Island Medal of Honor. He is an Executive Fellow of the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University—the first architect to be awarded the title.

Mr. Kohn has degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and attended the Harvard Graduate School of Design’s Real Estate Development Course in 1982. Eugene Kohn is registered in twenty-six states, as well as in Great Britain and Japan. He is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects and a member of its Octagon Society. During 1988, he served as president of the AIA NYC Chapter. He is also a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects, the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat, the Japan Institute of Architects, and honorary member of the Fellows of the Philippine Institute. He also served as a Trustee for the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Fine Arts and the Wharton Real Estate Center Advisory Board.
