Buenaventura Geronimo “Jerry” Perez Treñas

Buenaventura Geronimo “Jerry” Perez Treñas is the Mayor of Iloilo City, Philippines. He was formerly President and now serves as National Chairman of the League of Cities of the Philippines, Chairman of the Metropolitan Iloilo-Guimaras Economic Development Council, Chairman of the Infrastructure Committee of the Regional Development Council and a member of the Executive Committee of the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives. He was formerly Vice President for Visayas of the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines, and Chairman of the Economic Development Committee and Co-Chairman of the Infrastructure Committee of the Regional Development Council.

Immediately after his election as Mayor in 2001, Mayor Treñas worked double-time to realize numerous projects that brought significant development to the City. He’s focused on solid waste management, fighting the proliferation of illegal drugs, traffic management, flood control, poverty alleviation, environmental protection and conservation, local economic development and investment promotions, public-private partnership, education, infrastructure development, health, peace and order and the strengthening of local and international partnerships.

Prior to becoming the city’s chief executive, he was a full-time practicing lawyer and managing partner of the Treñas and Rubias Law Office. A professor of law at the University of Iloilo, he also served as city councilor for eight (8) years. Mayor Treñas has a Bachelors Degree in Political Science at the Ateneo de Manila University and a Bachelor of Laws at the same institution. He placed 11th during the 1982 national bar examinations.
